The Gymnastics Foundation
A message from ‘The Gymnastics Foundation’ Directors
‘The Gymnastics Foundation’ has been established to provide assistance and financial support for Victorian Gymnastics Clubs. The need to constantly improve and upgrade facilities and equipment, to assist and support club members develop new and improved skills are essential if we are to move forward in a positive direction.
The Foundation Directors and its initial establishment funding was provided by the Board of Gymnastics Victoria who saw the need to develop a body to provide additional support to Victorian clubs. The Directors of the Foundation include John Higgins a former President and Treasurer of Gymnastics Victoria and Murray Chessell a former President of Gymnastics Australia and for many years the Honorary Solicitor of Gymnastics Victoria. This is a very knowledgeable and experienced group in both gymnastics and business.
The Directors invest the Gymnastics Foundation funds and through the earnings provides grants to clubs based on funding applications.
The success of ‘The Foundation’ and its ability to assist and support clubs will very much depend on its ability to attract funds from within and outside the gymnastics community. The most important task is to build up the funding base to a level which will allow The Foundation to be a beneficiary.
I would urge our membership to encourage donations and consider making provision for ‘The Gymnastics Foundation’ to be a beneficiary of their will.
Associate Professor Geoff Sussman OAM
Past President Gymnastics Victoria, Chairman Gymnastics Foundation

Rural Grants 2010
At the 2010 AGM the Foundation Director, John Higgins, announced the inaugural grants from The Gymnastics Foundation available to 27 rural and regional gymnastic clubs. Each club was eligible to receive a $200 support gift to assist in qualifying a Level 1 Coach before the end of 2010. With the 50% Board discount and the Foundation support, this was a great opportunity to get coaches qualified.
John also explained how the Foundation needs to raise funds from the community and anything clubs or individuals can do to assist is gratefully accepted. The Foundation will be setting up a group of ambassadors to explain and promote the Foundation. It does mean ideas such as bequests will be put on the agenda and people are invited to discuss the concept.
